Well, I usually live in a 0.1 sys, but this week I'm spending in highsec, running missions. Why?
- not enough time for PvP'ing in lowsec - Doing any kind of (non-pirate) PvP requires a lot of time. Setting up, looking for targets, evaluating strengths and weaknesses, putting up a trap/gatecamp, sitting still until someone springs the trap/gatecamp... etc. Doing PvP versus someone who can shoot back requires a lot of spare time.
- never PvP without a PvP setup - Yup, I ain't gonna run a mission in lowsec with my Raven, T2 Cruise, T2 Hardeners, T2 Booster and what other valuables when I'm, while perfectly set up for the mission, an easy prey for a fitting that exploits resistance holes of mission runners or simply gank squads lingering around the agent bases, scanning and probing for high value / low risk targets. I have no problem with taking an expensive ship & fitting into PvP, heck, my wallet would allow to take cerberuses on suicide runs, but then I will have a PvP fitting, and when I lose it's not because some ganker cought me unprepared, but because he was plain and simple better.
- High sec is like a vacation - Really, it is. And not only because there's close to no risk, but there's less hassle for logistics, less hassle for traveling (aint got an insta? meh, then I'll limp the 15km with my fat ugly whale and fetch me coffee while its limping towards the gate)... It's just refreshing to once in a while just log on and play without checking local, waiting for people, waiting for stuff to happen. My last time in high sec was... dunno, 2 or 3 months ago, since then only 0.1 with the odd loot-run-day towards a high sec hub. So yeah, I'm enjoying it.
- High Sec isn't all that profitable anymore - 10m per hour someone estimated a few pages ago, and yeah, factoring in LP that's about right. An Extravaganza takes me about 2.5h to compete with a fully T2 kitted Raven and yields about 15-20m in bounties + 1.5 - 2m reward. Drops? What drops? Since there are only deadspace missions now with deadspace npcs theres crap all drops. Standard, unnamed T1 crap. Best I got this week was a named large smartbomb, worth probably 750k. Awesomeness in a bottle, if that doesn't yell for nerfing. Compared to 0.1 belt ratting that's not much more, and when you know what you're doing in lowsec, then sitting in a belt is even safer than running missions in highsec. Especially near Jita.
Mhmmm a pity the missions near gates are gone, I can remember... last time I was highsec mission running I got such a mission. In Jita. During the 10mins near the gate I saw three haulers go pop. Good times
- Also, I'm not running missions solo by choice - Certainly not. For most level4 missions I can't take along anybody as long as he or I can't tank the whole room. You know that thing, that drones draw aggro from groups that are far away and you didnt even had targeted, much less aggroed? Yeah, the very same thing happens when you bring a friend along. I would love to run level4s with friends or other people, both because they might neep help or advice during a mission and because it's much more fun than to 'target next spawn, F1-F6' all alone without company. But as long as someone else who travels with you, without doing anything to draw aggro, immediatly draws auto aggro from the rest of the room this is impossible to do.
So, that's it. Remove all remotely valuable agents or missions from highsec and I wont go grind there, instead keep chaining belts and make the same amount of ISK with the same risk. For whoever runs level4s in lowsec: fine, do that, it's a matter of personal choice after all. Also, I'm all for increasing lowsec mission profits. But don't try to force any playstyle on others, it's the famous 'don't whine for the devs to change the game mechanics if you suck' - thing
